Safe BDSM : fisting

When you engage in BDSM activities, you must have detailed knowledge of the different techniques. BDSM carries very high safety risks if you have no knowledge of and experience with these practices. The following rules apply to all BDSM acts:

  • Only use attributes that you can clean. Check this when buying sex toys.
  • In the event of injuries, avoid direct contact with blood, wound and bodily fluids.

Fisting

What is fisting?

Fisting, fist fucking (FF) or handballing means fucking someone anally with your full hand or fist.

Risks of fisting?

Fisting carries a lot of risks. You can damage your sex partner's anus and the already fragile abdominal wall.

Even if you take great care during fisting, there will always be slight damage to the anus and the rectum and a higher risk of a HIV, Hepatitis A and C transmission as a result.

Both the receiver and the giver are at risk because small injuries or cuts under your fingernails can introduce STIs into the body while fisting.

Anal douching just before fisting reduces the discomfort during sex but increases the risk of STI transmission because it can cause small wounds in your anus or intestine. In addition, the water will make the colon wall drier, which again increases the risk of injuries and infections.

TIPS:

  • Stay alert for signs from your partner and don't force anything. Ask your partner regularly whether he/she is ok during fisting.
  • Use enough silicone-based lubricant.
  • Ensure that the person performing the fisting has short nails.
  • Never wear rings or bracelets.
  • Always wear long gloves.
  • Are you fisting different people? Put on a new glove every time you change sex partner.
  • Wash your hands and forearms thoroughly with soap and water before and after fisting.
  • Use one jar/bottle of lubricant per person and never share lubricants.

Have you been fisted recently and suffer from (severe) abdominal pain, abdominal cramps and/or high fever?

Please contact the hospital's emergency unit immediately. You may have peritonitis and need urgent medical attention.
