Safer sex tips: fellatio, a blow job or sucking off

Below are some tips on how to perform different sex activities safely.

Fellatio, a blow job or sucking off

Getting a blowjob

You can get STIs from oral sex. Although the risk is generally smaller if you receive rather than give oral sex, STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhoea or chlamydia can be transmitted. If the person giving you a blow job has sores on his/her lips, you can end up with a herpes on your penis.

TIPS

  • Make sure that the person giving you a blow job has no cold sores, blisters or warts on his/her mouth.
  • Use a condom.
  • The shorter the sex act, the smaller the risk of getting an STI.

Giving someone a blow job

You can contract an STI by giving oral sex without a condom. The risk is lower than when you give a blow job without a condom, but you can still contract syphilis, HIV, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, hepatitis B, herpes or genital warts.

TIPS

  • Use a condom.
  • Check for cold sores, blisters and genital warts on the penis.

A blow job without a condom

Als je toch besluit om zonder condoom te pijpen, verlaag dan het risico op soa's door rekening te houden met onderstaande tips.

If you decide to give or receive a blow job without a condom, reduce the risk of getting an STI by following the tips below.

  • The  longer the oral sex session, the greater the risk of getting or passing on an STI. Limit the duration of the blow job.
  • Deep throating carries a greater risk of catching an STI. This is because the mucous membrane of the throat is thinner than that of the mouth, allowing bacteria and viruses to spread faster through the body.
  • Make sure you have control over how far the penis goes down your throat and the duration of the blow job. The deeper the penis goes, the greater the risks. Use your hands to control how deep the penis goes.
  • Avoid getting semen in your mouth as it can carry the HIV virus. If you do get sperm in your mouth, do not swallow it but spit it out immediately and rinse your mouth with water.
  • Clean off any pre-ejaculatory fluid (pre-cum), don't swallow or take it in your mouth as it can also carry the HIV-virus.
  • Take a closer look at the customer's penis. Refuse a customer with blisters, sores, wounds or warts as these may be signs of an STI. When the skin folds in the groin area are infected, using a condom will not protect you against STIs.
  • Have the doctor check your throat regularly, if give blow jobs. Violett can give you a free check-up.
  • Most STIs are invisible, you don’t actually see them, but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t there. In other words: a clean penis can well be infected.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene. Don't brush your teeth just before or after a blow job. Brushing can cause small wounds that allow bacteria to enter your bloodstream.
