Adoption
A second option if faced with an unwanted pregnancy is adoption. Your pregnancy runs its course but once the child is born, you give it up for adoption. It will be raised by adoptive parents. Once the judge issues the adoption order, you are no longer the legal parent of the child.
If you are considering adoption, please contact a recognised adoption agency. They will help you decide and explain the procedure in further detail.
- What does an adoption agency do?
To make sure that your child gets the best chance to succeed in life, the adoption agency looks for appropriate adoptive parents who must go through a lengthy procedure before being eligible.
The adoption agency takes care of all legal and administrative matters together with you. They will also act as intermediary between the birth mother (you), the child and the adoptive parents (who will raise your child). Once your child has been adopted, you can contact the agency anytime to find out how your child is getting on.
- Important facts
- You have a two-month reflection period after the birth.
- The child has a right to know its biological parents. The adoption agency keeps all the relevant information on file and acts as an intermediary if one of the parties wants to contact the other.
